His Lordship David Edward Ashton-Lewis is the 6th Baron of Benington and the 21st Lord of Huntingdon. Justice Ashton-Lewis is a Supreme Court Judge and was recently appointed as the sole Commissioner on the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into certain matters related to the Fiji Independent Commission of Inquiry.

He was born on 4 March 1950 in Melbourne, Australia, and now lives in the Gold Coast, Queensland.

Reflecting on his life’s journey, His Lordship conveyed that his proudest moment was when he was granted  a coat of arms, a crest, a bridge, and a standard, by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second in 1989, for services to constitutions and constitutional law in a developing commonwealth country. Justice Ashton-Lewis spent eight years from 1984 to 1992 as Deputy DPP for five highland provinces in Papua New Guinea. His work there involved brokering peace deals between warring highland tribes. For the majority of his time in PNG, he and his wife, also a lawyer, who deputised for him, were the only “whet skin” (Pidgin for Europeans) lawyers working there. He feels honoured to have been able to contribute to the constitutional growth of nations like PNG and Fiji.

Cheers to the good in all of us😊
